Queensland Raceway – Round Three

Queensland Raceway once again delivered a tough and frustrating weekend for the team at WLR, proving to be a challenging track both mechanically and mentally. Despite moments of promise, Round 3 was ultimately defined by mechanical setbacks and racing misfortune, but as always, the team remains focused on what lies ahead.

Practice & Qualifying
Friday’s practice sessions saw some encouraging signs, with Wil showing competitive pace. Heading into qualifying, the aim was to lock in a top-ten starting position. Despite not having the benefit of a slipstream tow Wil was still able to secure P10, just two-tenths off pole position. While not quite where we wanted to be, it was a solid effort in a tightly packed field.

Race One
Starting from P10, Wil got off to a clean and aggressive launch, making progress early. However, disaster struck on lap two when fourth gear completely disintegrated. Wil managed to limp the car through the remainder of the race to bring it home in P12

Race Two
With the gearbox replaced overnight, spirits were optimistic heading into Sunday’s first race. Wil made another strong start and was quickly moving forward, but his run was disrupted when he was forced off track during a close battle. The excursion triggered an ABS fault, which left the car with limited braking performance and compromised the remainder of the race.

Race Three
The final race of the weekend sadly followed a similar pattern. Once again, Wil had a great launch and was making forward progress through the field, but was forced off track twice by other competitors. The resulting off-track excursions triggered another ABS fault and led to significant front-end damage that hampered our progress forward and putting a frustrating end to a weekend full of effort but little reward.

We’ll return to Queensland in just under a month’s time for Round 4 of the TGRA Scholarship Series, to be held at Morgan Park. The focus now shifts to regrouping and repairing before the next round.

Thank you to our partners, supporters, and everyone who continues to back Wil Longmore Racing. Eyes forward, we’ll be back.
